Project Runway Episode Six: Bullshit!

Finally! An interesting episode! Who knew all we needed were a few drag queens and a little neon to spice this season up?

This week’s (totally amazing, super exciting, awesomely fabulous, downright fan-friggin-tastic) challenge involved each designer creating an over the top garment for an over the top client: NYC drag queens. Originally, we thought that this challenge was just a way to make really horrendous designers feel better about themselves for having such outrageous taste.

Turns out, we were wrong. This was the challenge where the judges got to call bullshit on the bullshitters. And to that we say: It’s about damn time!

Keith, who claims to be innovative, but seems to favor patchwork and unpolished layers, created a dress-type thing (even Nina Garcia couldn’t figure out this garment) with, you guessed it, fringe. The judges hated it and so did we. He wound up in the bottom two, but dodged the bullet. And thank god, since he’s the closest thing to eye candy we’ve got this season.

Jerrell, who is supposedly “all about the drama” made a dramatic dress for a regular person. For a drag queen, this shit is simple.

Daniel, who claims to have “impeccable taste,” yet only creates mundane cocktail dresses designed yet another cocktail dress. He seems to think that using day-glo fabric was enough to make it drag queen fab. Wrong. The judges sent him packing and we’re glad to see him go.

As for fabulous, there were quite a few hot little numbers in this episode.

Korto made this fire-inspired dress with a removable waist wrap. Her work makes designing and sewing seem easy and she’s on our short list of favorite contestants.

Terri’s design was easily the most costume-like on the runway and we loveloveloved it.

Finally, Joe designed this “Ann Margret on the Love Boat” garment and won the drag queen challenge. The hot pink stretchy body suit (with an oh-so-strategically placed belt) was the flashiest design on the runway. What’s most shocking about this garment is that Joe was visibly unnerved by tonight’s challenge and we had visions of him creating a boring frock.

We’ve been hard on Joe (admittedly because he wears dad jeans), but seeing this garment proved that he’s got the skills to pay the bills.

Sidenote: Dear RuPaul, What happenened to your face? It’s so much more angular than we remember. Honey, eat a cheeseburger. Please. Also, whoever told you that that disgusting pre-rehab Britney Spears wig worked was dead wrong.
