Out of Sight, Out of Mind
Honestly, I completely forgot about the magazine Redbook until I spotted it in the hair salon yesterday. While it might be mom focused, it features great video content, including this video which shows you how to get a great facial at home.
The blog Just Jared has some juicy posts as of late. First off, I completely hate the dress that Jessica Simpson wore recently when she sang the National Anthem at the AT&T National golf tournament hosted by Tiger Woods. Also, Kevin Jonas is engaged! Check out the gorgeous ring he gave his girlfriend.
The new Coach line that I blogged about yesterday, Poppy is apparently featuring famous face Alexis Bledel as one of their models. Also, I hope to one day be part of a couple as beautiful as the Beckhams. A girl can dream, can’t she? Also, these wedges are crazy!
Lastly, these Philly women share their waldrobe malfunctions with SnapGlow.TV, and Cynthia Gouw shares how not to look exhausted, even if you stay up at night blogging…wait, maybe that’s just me.
Bags Under 100, Shoes Close to 1000
Whitney Port of The City and formerly of The Hills did a fashion shoot with Women’s Health. In these pictures, Whitney is seen wearing gorgeous SoCal style brights around Gotham.
I confess, I have another girl crush. Don’t tell anyone, deal? It’s Taylor Swift. Don’t act like you don’t have a crush on her too. Taylor did a cover shoot with Glamour. The website Just Jared has a piece of the action too, showcasing Taylor’s signature curls.
Perez Hilton’s crush Lady Gaga did a photoshoot as well. With no pants, of course.
In addition to the Taylor Swift cover shoot, Glamour Magazine’s website also has an article on how to wear heels and make them feel like sneakers. I’m not usually uncomfortable in heels, I just morph into a bigger klutz. I’ve been known to fall off curbs for no reason…but, I think that the discomfort in heels issue is a common one. Just the other day I overheard someone talking about issues wearing high heels while I was in the steam room at the gym. I didn’t ask about the pain or how it started, since I was slightly uncomfotable. I’m still a steam roomie newbie. Regardless, the article is worth a look.
Also in Glamour, Justin Timberlake gives dating advice. I love JT, so any advice he’s willing to dish out, I’ll take. Glamour also has a page featuring bags UNDER 100 BUCKS! Ok, I promise I’m done yelling now.
Lastly, if you want to spend close to $1000 on sneakers, check out Kanye’s new designs.
Grenade time, ladies!
Maybe I’ve just got summer on the brain because my post yesterday was on bathing suits, but this video, “New Bikini” by Tash (California rapper of Tha Alcoholiks), is the best thing I’ve seen all goddamn week.
I need more squirtgun wars in my life, immediately. It looks like everyone in this video is having such a ridiculously good time.
More information on Tash’s new “Control Freek” at Amalgam Digital.

Tulip tech
Wow, I’ve needed a USB hub for aaaaaaaages, and I feel like I’d probably end up spending $22 on an ugly one, much less this cute bed-of-tulips one by Fred Flare. Check that off my list of things I need to do.

I’m Not A Fan of the Shmata
In Style has a video of Katy Perry during her photo shoot for the magazine. I honestly wasn’t a fan last year when she came out with last year’s hit ‘I Kissed A Girl,’ but now she’s grown on me.

I can’t say the same for American Apparel. I want to be in their corner, since I know they pay their workers proper wages and are very very anti-sweat shop. But seriously, what is this stupid shmata?
Jennifer Johnson, hairstylist from Gossip Girl is such a sweetheart. I met her along with Blake Lively a few weeks back. She shares her hair tips with In Style magazine, including favorite products and how to get Blake’s famous waves from the show.
Also, I showed you Emma Watson’s from the American Teen Vogue, but here she is in British Vogue. Looking gorgeous again, obviously. Her makeup is described as ‘feline eyes.’ Meoww…
Do You Remember The Time?
Maybe you think there’s been too much coverage already, but Michael Jackson was someone that influenced my life for sure. I used to put on a white glove and try to moon walk. I never really looked as good as Michael did performing the famous dance move, but I had the glove down. His style is just one of the things that stands out. The glove is just one of the things that made an impact.
Daily Candy is giving away something for 100 Days! Go enter their contest, now!
Here’s a glimpse into what Style.com considers the stylish set engages in during the summer months.
Also, coffee might not make you stink as bad as you think it does. What a relief for a caffeine addict like myself.
Lastly, look out for the star of Cash Cab in Philly!
Over The Hill
I’m drawn to the older set. At least for today. In Florida they call them Q-tip heads, with their little white or gray haired heads bobbling behind the wheel of a car or golf cart. In Philly, the Q-tip heads drive the Duck tours, with no sign of slowing down.
I saw an older woman in a Michael Kors jacket yesterday and I thought “Wow look at her!” She definately didn’t look like this, to say the least. What is it about old lady style that has me so intrigued? Maybe it’s the idea of taking more risks than in your younger years, like in the book When I am An Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple. Maybe it’s the moxie that seems to emerge in the later years like that of my great aunt who beat up a guy that tried to mug her in her twilight years.
If being an old head means you can wear hats like these, maybe it won’t be so bad after all. I’m already a fan of huge sunglases and for one of my internships I pushed a granny cart across basically every inch of Manhattan. BFF Granny Cart, I called my little carry all. What are your thoughts on style for the older set? Do you just think of a smelly stack of shirts that smell like moth balls, or are you somewhat inspired like I am?
FabSugar is not impressed by Desginer Bally’s latest ad campaign, but I think it’s gorgeous. It looks like this dress from Alexander Wang has found it’s way onto the red carpet multiple times as of late. I wish I had one! I’d store it covered in moth balls, next to the granny cart, of course.
Lastly, W Magazine did a feature on Persian Immigrants living in Los Angeles. It’s a focus on the style and culture of Iran - something that may have been forgotten in the weeks since the election and political unrest in the middle eastern country.

Side note: I quit smoking yesterday. If anyone has any info on where one might procure a fake cigarette, not one of those fancy electronic vaporizer ones, just a reasonable facsimile of a cigarette I can put in my mouth and pretend to smoke, for the love of god tell me where I can buy one. Any other smoking-quitting advice would also be appreciated.
I may also be posting more frequently about things that I hate, such as the term “man cave,” for the next few months. Bear with me!
Emily G minus 20 years is American Apparel’s target audience
Everybody’s all hatin’ on the American Apparel children’s lamé leggings, but honestly, do you remember being a little kid? I don’t know about you, but at ages 4-6 I would have worn these until my mom pried them off my cold, dead legs.
In fact, I sometimes think my younger self is actually the target audience for many American Apparel products. Here, meet little Emily G:

Well, the only picture I have of myself as a little kid is a baseball card, so my interesting sense of style is not on full display, but note the subtle things: the enormous hat with the brim jauntily turned to the side, the bloused T-shirt.
But in honor of the kids’ lamé leggings looking far more appropriate on 5-year-olds than they do on 19-year-olds, I present a list of some of the American Apparel outfits little Emily G circa T-ball would have worn the hell out of:
Topanga!
The blog Fashiontribes has a spotlight on Temperley, a London based retailer that has opened a ‘pop up’ location in the Hamptons for a limited engagement. Fashiontribes also has a post on current offerings from the eternally chic Chanel.
Also, fragrance maker Kenzo gets a makeover. Big improvement from the awkwardly shaped containers from a couple years back. These new packages are meant to travel, and the old ones looked like they were going nowhere fast.
Tennis star Maria Sharpova shows off a dress that’s designed to blink when your cell phone rings. It’s meant for use in a club when you might not be able to hear your mobile. It sounds like a good idea - sort of.
And lastly, Topanga or Danielle Fishel as she probably answers to more often - hosts a show on the Style Network called The Dish! Maybe I missed the boat, but I somehow didn’t see it until now! If you don’t get the Style Network, not to worry. The show also airs on Style’s sister network, E!
